The Mid-Engine Chevy Corvette is Finally Here
For all this years we have been dreaming and speculating and gossiping
about this very moment which is finally here; be hold for the new which is a
very first mid engine by Chevy Corvette. So before we dive into the design of
the Chevy Corvette C8 and discuss the number of horses this beast produce,
we should first take a peak from where it all got under way.
Mid engine Corvette rumors and concept cars are been swirling around
since 1960s.The first generation Corvette was a total flop, thanks to engineer
and avid car racer Zora Arkus-Duntov. When Zora was promoted as the Head
Engineer of the Corvette program everything started to change . Zora always
knew that the mid engine layout would offer better performance, it would push
their car off the boundaries to the ranks of exotic European sports cars. Even
though Zora Arkus-Duntov isn't here to see the new C8 but his hard work has
paid off.
So let's talk about the design, the new C8, it's is a bit different in shape as it
is being criticized on the internet, but it seems to be pretty much a Corvette, the
angular body line, the sharp sharky nose, the quad tail lights are all
unmistakably Corvette, only an unmistakably well vented Corvette should I
say, there are vents on the front, side, and above the engine just for the sake
of cooling this beast's heart.
As a mid engine car its engine is placed in the back of the seats so there is
plenty of room up front for activities such as a lower hoodlne, a bigger
windshield for better visibility and of course you get a front hood storage for
you to carry a suitcase or a couple of duffel bags, The door handles are very
cleverly hidden under the the side trim which keeps the design look sleek. It
has still got the removable roof panel which is a good thing and the panel fits
in the trunk like a lego, You can still store 2 golf bags in the trunk C8's body is
much stiffer than the C7's all because of the huge center tunnel which acts as
a super strong backbone and the other are the six large aluminum castings
that make up the frame.
On the rear of the car there are vents just below the tail lights for the hot air
from the engine to pass, the quad tail pipes that use to be in the center is now
2
shifted to the sides of the car, still got 4 tail pipes 2 on either side and the rear
bumper is made out of carbon fiber.
Now let's talk engine shall we, so it's a push rod engine but it's shape
allowed GM to mount the engine lower for better center of gravity. it is the
Stingray's new 6.2 liters LT2 V8 that makes 495 horsepower and 637 Nm of
torque with Z51 package that includes performance exhaust along with
improved cooling vents, better brakes and breath taking aerodynamics , an
electronic LSD and stickier tires.
The interior of this thing has different story, so Chevy designed the interior
more like a cockpit and its the best in the history of Corvette's. their main goal
was to to improve driver focus and visibility, the new steering wheel is the
square shaped designed to get a good view of the gauge cluster, the vertical
climate control strip which separates the driver and front passenger area looks
futuristic.
For the first time in history of Corvette the C8 will not be available in the
manual transmission, it has the 8 speed dual clutch transmission that clicks
shifts in less than 100th of a millisecond so it's absolutely faster than a
manual.
The most interesting part of this bad boy is its price, the GM has priced the
new C8 Corvette at 600,000 USD, yeah you got that right, the car this
amazing could be your's for that price
The Corvette C8 will be debuting as a Stingray in 2020.
